It was such a great idea to pack up the van and drive to Utah this spring!
It was so fun to be with each other and see so much of the country that we had never seen. We crossed the Mississippi into Minnesota from Wisconsin. We checked out Sioux Falls and the "Corn Palace" and the "Wall Drug". South Dakota is amazing.
The Badlands made us feel like we were in Star Wars scenes- well, certainly not in Illinois anymore!
The Black Hills and Custer State park were unique and the fog made the "Needles" all the more awesome. Our first attempt at the real reason we were driving instead of flying was disappointing to say the least. The spot we are standing is the same spot in both pictures but on different days. We decided to stay over night to see if the "blanket" would lift
. I looked out the hotel window before 6am and told the guys "Let's go!". It was a beautiful morning but we saw the fog rolling in again as we were leaving. There are people from all over the world (with this picture of the grey blanket) that we shared the day and the disappointment with. We heard a lot of "We came all this way..."
Of course we had to drive back home also so we went through Dinosaur National Monument in
Utah and Colorado. Seth worked as we toured and earned his Jr Ranger badge AND his Palentologist badge. He took an oath and all- very seriously.

We had to hike to see this view in Colorado. The plaque stated that this was the most amazing view of any National Park- It was amazing...
We drove off the freeways through some breathtaking canyons in Colorado.
It was a great trip- every minute of it!

wow, you make the long painful drive not look too bad!
Are you sure you didn't photoshop Mt Rushmore into the picture. I am glad that you waited to see it for real. You guys look like you had a great trip.
